Mick Leggett made it two wins on the bounce to zoom into contention in the season-long race for the Barkman Trophy.

The genial 36-handicapper proved that last week's win was no flash in the pan when he easily won Saturday's match of the day, an Irish stableford off the white tees.

Playing very steady golf, particularly on the all-important final six holes, Mick finished with an imposing total of 84 points.

This was nine better than Chris Louth who overcame a nervous start to post 75 points for second.

Neil McLaren - back from a visit to Australia - claimed third with 73 points.

He was followed by Andrew Craig (71), Greg Mann (69), and Lloyd Patchett and Dean Goodman (68 each) who grabbed the last Barkman points on offer.

Despite the sunny day, many players continued to struggle in the heavy underfoot conditions.

The twos money was shared by four players - Neil, Lloyd, Matthew Watkins and Keri Kotua.

The day also counted as a Shootout round with Mick (net 69), Neil (72), Lloyd (74) and Dean (75) all improving their net averages.

Next week (July 30) is another round of both the Barkman and Shootout, with the match of the day a net round off the white tees.
