Richard Pearson proved yet again that oldies are goldies with victory in the latest round of the Barkman Trophy on Saturday (July 25).

Played in winter sunshine off the white tees, Richard - who plays off a very respectable handicap of 14.6 and is one of the fittest 70 plus year-olds anywhere - powered round in a nett 74, which with 29 putts gave him a winning scores of 103.

Nipping at his heels was Paul McCrae (75 + 29) who claimed second on countback from Aaron Kotua (76 +28) on 104.

Tom Weiss (77 + 28) finished fourth on 105. Next were Paul Tunnicliff (74 + 32) with 106 followed by Steve Russell and Rangi Kohe who both shot 77s with 30 putts each for 107.

Lindsay Brooks rescued an otherwise forgettable day with the only two and a win in the raffle.

In the Shootout, Paul Tunnicliff and Aaron Kotua further improved their nett averages in a day of generally high scoring despite the excellent conditions.

Next Saturday (August 1) we play the Six-hole Challenge whereby players are drawn in groups of four or three and play each group member over six or nine holes in matchplay, with the person with the most points at the end winning. Extra holes will be played in the event of a tie. Please get your name down early if you want to enter so a draw can be made.
