- Peter Watson
Peter Watson's run of good form continued when he took out the match of the day on a wet Saturday (June 15).
The 9-handicapper, who has had a first and second in his two previous club starts as well as playing well in last week's Old Hickory win, mastered the difficult conditions the best to record a +2 score in the par round competition off the blue tees.
His nett 70 was the only score to break par on a sodden course. Persistent morning rain reduced the field to just 18, although the weather improved markedly in the afternoon.
Maurice Woodhouse, another in fine form, grabbed second on countback from Keri Kotua with both finishing square with the card.
Next came Bryan Ramsey and Graham Eggers on -1. They were followed by Pat Melville (-2), Paul Tunnicliff (-3), Terry Hemi (-4), Andy Isle (5), Peter Green (-5) and Dean Goodman (-5).
Graham Eggers, who came close to an ace, Maurice Woodhouse and Dave Blake shared the twos money, while Warwick King - just back from a cruise around Hawaii - won a Hawaiian shirt and cap for the most the golf.
Next week (June 22) the individual matchplay - one of the club's premier competitions - begins. The following rounds are on June 29, July 13, July 20 and July 27 if required. Please get your entries into either Gordon or the golf shop. There are starting sheets in the clubrooms and shop. You must play matches or the designated days, unless both players agree to hold it on another day, in which case the match must be played before the next round.
