Club results for May 11, 2019
The Brebde Senior/Junior got underway with five first round matches played on Saturday (May 11).
Conditions were good for the matchplay competition which is played with drawn pairs off the white tees. In total, a pleasing field of 35 golfers teed off in the autumn sun.
Paul Suan and Alan Muir overcame Jack Denton and Rod Thomason 2/1, with Alan shooting 90 off the stick for a marvellous nett 58, the best of the day by some margin.
Rangi Kohe and Graham Eggers saw off Jonathan Tuheke and John McGougan 3/2, while Andy Isle and Andrew Craig were too good for Gordon Davidson and Dave Blake 4/3.
Terry Hemi and Jim McMullan used their shots wisely to defeat the favoured combo of Keri Kotua and Lewis Wilson 3/2. Lefties Warwick King and Peter Watson came with a late surge to edge out Rob Willems and Mike Murphy 2 up.
Elton Netto and Winton Griggs, Jason Lee and Brian Rhodes and Maurice Woodhouse and Warren Carey enjoyed first round byes.
In the stableford match of the day, Elton Netto took top honours with 37 points. Pat Melville (36 points) pipped Paul Tunnicliff for second on countback.
They were followed by Bryan Ramsey (35 points) and Paul McCrae and Steve Turnell on 34 points.
There were five twos with Steve Turnell, Rob Willems, Richard Pearson, Pat Melville and Peter Watson scoring one each.
The second round of the Brebde Senior/Junior will be played next week (May 18) with the quarter-final draw to be sent out a few days before this. The match of the day for those not involved in the Brebde will be a nett round off the white tees.
