Club results for October 31, 2020

The Country Clubs tournament in Motueka and the threat of rain meant there was only a small turnout on Saturday (Oct 31).

Dean Goodman continued to display the good form that won him the senior club championship, amassing 71 points in the match of the day, an Irish stableford played off the whites tees.

He was chased all the way by Dave Blake, who finished second on 68 points. Third was Bryan Ramsey on 64 points.

Meanwhile, at Motueka our hopes of defending the Country Clubs Trophy we won last year faded after a promising start.

Our A team won both its morning matches in the rain, with Andy Isle and Steve Russell winning a tight one, while Peter Watson and Lewis Wilson won more comfortably. The B team got on the board after Paul Tunnicliff and Jonathan Tuheke secured a win at the last hole to offset a narrow loss suffered by Keri Kotua and Richard Pearson.

The afternoon matches proved our undoing, with Andy and Steve going down and Peter and Lewis getting thumped. The B team suffered the same fate, with both combinations losing with holes to spare.

Things improved only marginally on Sunday morning as the sun came out. Andy and Steve lost again, but Lewis and new partner Peter Green  won well. Keri - who had to play without a partner because of a communication breakdown - did really well to take it to the last before succumbing, while Paul and Jonathan suffered another defeat.

Takaka caused something of an upset in claiming the trophy from two Motueka teams.
