Club results for September 11, 2021

After a month-long break from competition because of the Covid outbreak, most players found the first round of qualifying for the club champs on Saturday (Sept 11) more than a challenge.

As well as shaking off the rust, a swirling and at time gusty wind, a course softened by rain and playing off the blue tees added to the difficulty.

In fact, it came as little surprise that no one in the field managed to play to their handicap.

Richard Pearson, playing off a 15, got closest with a worthy nett 73 to take match of the day honours. Close behind were Paul McCrae who pipped Neil McLaren for second on countback after both came in with 74. Dave Blake claimed fourth with 75.

Next were Dean Goodman and Maurice Woodhouse on 76, while Steve Russell claimed the last Barkman Trophy point with 77.

Unsurprisingly the best gross rounds were scored by the three seniors in the field, with Andy Isle shooting an 85 and Dean Goodman and Peter Watson 86 each which didn't please any of them.

The day also doubled as the first round of the C & F Legal Stroke (which is decided over the first two rounds of qualifying) and as a Barkman Trophy the Shootout round.

Three players - Paul Tunnicliff, Warren Carey and Lindsay Brooks - shared the twos spoils.

Next week (Sept 18) is the second round of club champs qualifying and the C & F Stroke as well as another Barkman and Shootout round.

Tee-off will revert to a 10am start so please report to the starter by 9.30am.

The handicaps grades for the club champs is senior 0-11 index, intermediate 11.1-17, junior A 17.1-23 and junior B 23.1+
