Alan Church had one of those days on Saturday (Sept 19) that every golfer hankers for when the ball springs sweetly off the club.

The 22.3 handicapper also handled the back blue tees and the cored greens - which made putting difficult -  in his stride to easily book his place in the Junior A club champs playoffs with a fine 92 off the stick.

He also garnered maximum Barkman Trophy points in the match of the day with 40 stablefords, two better than Jack Denton on 38 points.

Barry Rhodes pipped Dean Goodman for third on countback after both finished with 37 points. Andy Isle was alone in fifth on 35 points. He was followed by Maurice Woodhouse, Ian Hanford and Warwick King  who all collected 34 points. Peter Green, Richard Pearson and Bryan Ramsey made up the top 11 after ending with 33 points.

Unsurprisingly given the state of the greens no one scored a two so the pool jackpots to next week.

In the third and final qualifying round of the club champs, Dean Goodman recorded an excellent 80, the best gross of the day to zoom up the senior seedings, while Andy Isle (82) and Peter Green (85) cemented their positions.

Jack Denton (86), Pearson (90) Maurice Woodhouse (92) were the best of the intermediates, while Alan Church (92) and Paul McCrae (96) headed the Junior A scoring.

Barry Rhodes (103) and Jim McMullan (110) were the best of the Junior Bs.

With Keri Kotua and Jonathan Tuheke away on rep duty and their third rounds rescheduled for next Saturday, the final playoff seedings and match-ups for the quarter-finals on October 3 won't be announced until nearer that date.

In the Shootout, Peter Green, Warwick King, Jim McMullan and Dave Blake all improved their nett averages.
