Country Clubs damp squib

Our Country Clubs teams made heavy weather of the annual tournament played at Murchison over the weekend, finishing at the foot of the table.

The Waahi Taakaro No 1 team of Pete Green, Jonathan Tuheke, Keri Kotua and Geoff Halkett won just one of their six matches in the four ball best ball format, with Keri and Geoff recording a 4/3 victory in their first encounter on Saturday morning. Unfortunately, that was as good as it got, with the team finishing last on two points.

Our No 2 team of Andy Isle, Dave Blake, Richard Pearson and Neil McLaren went slightly better, with Andy and Dave securing a half on Saturday afternoon and Richard and Neil winning their Sunday match 1 up after losing their first two games 1-down. They tied for second last with three points.

Wet conditions on Saturday made things unpleasant for the 14 teams entered, although the rain cleared on Sunday.

The Takaka No 2 team took home the trophy after five victories and a draw for 11 points. Golden Downs No 1 finished second on 10 points with four wins and two draws. They were the only two teams to go through the weekend unbeaten.
