Golden Oldies Prizegiving

Our Golden Oldies had plenty to celebrate at their annual prize-giving on Thursday.

There were cups to give out, a new bridge to walk over and a Christmas lunch at Smugglers to savour after their golf.

A large field of 27 entered the last competition before Christmas, which was a par round off the front nine. The new bridge meant the No 9 green across the river was back in play which proved challenging for some.

There was a six-way tie for first between Michael Doyle, Phil Sellers, Grant Fergusson, Barry Mitchell, Chris Louth and Ivan Guy who all finished with +1. Bryan Ramsey and Paul McCrae were next with 0, while the quartet of Ray Hopgood, Roma Elkington, John Dixon and Noel Shaw came in with -1 to round off the top 12.

No-one scored a two, although Sally Ma had the thrill of winning the hidden hole.

There were more winners crowned later in the clubhouse, with Andrew Dean taking out the season-long Worley Trophy, Chris Louth and Ray Hopgood awarded the Langley Trophy, an absent Mick Leggett getting the Laurie Ashby Cup and Golden Oldies convenor Noel Shaw the proud recipient of the Polly Pearce Memorial Trophy. The Guthardt Cup is still to be completed.

Next Thursday (Dec 29) is a stableford off the front nine starting at 10am.
