Noel Shaw didn't let his duties as Golden Oldies organiser distract him as he held firm to win the coveted Polly Pearce Memorial Trophy on Thursday.

Played over six rounds with the best four net scores counting, Noel went into the final 9-holes with a narrow two-shot lead. However, with nearest rival Jack Denton a no-show Noel made sure of the title by shooting the joint lowest net of the day with Mick Leggett, a 37 off the back nine in welcome sunny conditions on a soggy course. This maintained his two-shot lead over Jack with a final total of 140, with Paul McCrae finishing third four shots back on 144. Ivan Guy and Paul Tunnicliff shared fourth on 147.

Paul and Tom Weiss, with 38 net apiece, finished joint second in the match of the day. They were followed by the trio of Lloyd Moyle, Ian Hanford and Ray Hopgood in third on 39.

Ray had the biggest collect of day by winning the hidden hole which hadn't been struck for some weeks.

Surprisingly, no-one managed a two.

Next Thursday (July 21) is the seventh round of the Worley Cup, a stableford off the back nine.
