Work gets in the way of Warwick King playing regular golf but he made a rare appearance at the Golden Oldies count by narrowing winning the match of day.

The veteran leftie shot the best net of the day - a 32 - off the back nine from the white tees in glorious autumn conditions and his 15 putts on the greens for a total of 47 was just good enough for victory in the net plus putts format.

Second was Paul McCrae who shot a ho-hum 38 net but was deadly with the putter, taking just 10 to get it in the hole.

There was a three-way tie for third between Grant Fergusson (34+16), Andrew Dean 36+14) and Graham Strickett (37+13).

They were followed by Ian Hanford (36+15)  and Terry Kelso (37+14) on 51 and the group of Richard Pearson (36+16), Barry Mitchell (38+14), Lloyd Moyle (38+14), Mark Sherlaw (38+14), and Todd Halsey (40+12) on 52.

Jim McMullan went within a whisker of an ace, with the ball lipping out on No 11, s had to share the twos money with John Dixon who also birdied No 11.

The hidden hole was not struck.

With Anzac Day next Thursday, the Golden Oldies have moved to Wednesday (April 24) when they will play the third round of the Polly Pearce Memorial Trophy, which is  a net round off the front nine starting at 10am.
