Noel Shaw made the best possible start to retaining the Polly Pearce Memorial Trophy by winning the first round on Thursday.

The Golden Oldies convenor - who plays off  28.5 handicap - has been in good form recently and made it two wins in a week when he headed the field with a net 32 off the front nine in cooler conditions.

John Dixon led the chasing pack with a net 33. He was followed by the trio of Ian Hanford, Andrew Dean and John Gibbons who recorded 34s.

Next were Tom Kennedy (35) and the quartet of Richard Pearson, Phil Sellers, Warren Green and Ray Hopgood on 36 apiece.

Warren had an excellent collect after scoring the only two of the day.

There are five more rounds of the net competition which alternates between the front and back nines.

Next Thursday (March 2 ) is a par round off the front nine, while our Old Hickory team plays at Greenacres.
