Grant Fergusson went home with a wide grin and a fat wallet after winning both the Golden Oldies match of the day and the hidden hole on Thursday (Oct 24).

Playing off an 11 handicap for the front nine, the club vice-president capped off a fine round with a birdie four at his final hole for a net 31 and +4 in the par competition, which doubled as the first round of the Langley Trophy that is played with drawn partners.

The hidden hole hadn't been struck for many weeks so Grant's birdie on No 9 proved very rewarding. It was a near thing as Richard Pearson's birdie attempt on the same hole struck the pin and stayed out.

The birdie proved to be the difference in more than one way as Grant finished just a shot ahead of three chasers - Phil Sellers, Noel Shaw and :Lloyd Moyle - who all posted +3 on a good day for scoring with the sun out and the fairways starting to run.

Next were Andrew Dean and Ali Mawby who came in with +2. They were followed by Richard P, Dick Carter and Jack Denton  on +1. Warren Green with 0 completed the top 10.

There were no twos.

Next week (Oct 31) the Golden Oldies play the third and final round of the Laurie Ashby Cup, which is a stableford off the front nine.
