Noel Shaw capped off what was already an excellent year with a spectacular round to win the final Golden Oldies match of the day for 2023.

In ideal conditions on a packed course on Thursday, the Golden Oldies convenor made a mockery of his 14-handicap for the front nine to rocket to 25 stableford points. He had already racked up 19 points in six holes in playing them at just two over par before cooling off slightly over his last three.

Unsurprisingly, he finished well ahead of the rest of the field, which was led by Heather Carey with 21 points, which would on any other day been a winning score. Her score included a five-pointer on No 5 which she parred.

Third went to Grant Fergusson who came in with 20 points.

There was a three-way tie for fourth between Mark Sherlaw, John Shaw and Warren Carey with 19 points each.

Next was the trio of Chris Louth, Bryan Ramsey and Paul McCrae with 18 apiece.

There were no twos and the hidden hole was not struck.

Next Thursday (Jan 4) the Golden Oldies will again play a stableford off the front nine starting at 10am.
