The scoring was almost as hot as the day as many of our Golden Oldies burned up a Waahi Taakaro course now showing plenty of summer run.

Neil Howard took a special liking to the conditions in finishing with a whopping 26 stableford points playing off a 14 handicap for the front nine. His round included three pars and a birdie on No 8 which saw him win match of the day by three points.

Ian Hanford was another to shine with 23 points playing off a 9 handicap, which earned him second. His round included the only two of the day, at No 2, which was a healthy addition to his winnings.

Tom Kennedy and Martin Lubransky - whose 39 included two birdies and was the best gross of the day - tied for third with 22 points.

They were followed by Lloyd Moyle (21), and a group five comprising John Dixon, Phil Sellers, Jack Denton, Jim McMullan and Ray Hopgood on 18 points.

Next Thursday (Jan 15) the Golden Oldies play a par round off the front nine.
