Bradley Brown got some pay back for the large amount of time he spends working on his game when he won the match of the day on Thursday (June 30).

One of the keenest golfers in the club, he was the only Golden Oldie to play to his handicap on a course still recovering from a lot of rain.

His net 36 together with 14 putts for a total of 50 in the net plus putts format over the front nine saw him narrowly top the standings.

Terry Kelso (37 + 14) finished second with 51, while Noel Shaw (37 + 15) and Warren Green (38 + 14) tied for third on 52.

Four players – Chris Louth (37 + 16), Mick Leggett (37 + 16), Ivan Guy (38 + 15) and Barry Rhodes (39 +14) - shared fifth on 53.

There were no twos and the hidden hole was not struck.

Next Thursday (July 7) the Golden Oldies play a par round off the back nine.

Meanwhile, Noel Shaw holds a two-shot lead with just one round of the Polly Pearce Memorial Trophy to play.

His total of 140 for his four best rounds – after a net 38 on June 23 – has him narrowly ahead of Jack Denton (142) and Paul McCrae (144). Robbie Dellow and Neil Howard loom as a major threats if they play the sixth and final round on July 16 to qualify.
