Hard yards for the Old Hickory team

Our Old Hickory team took a buffeting on a wind-swept Takaka course on Thursday but managed to avoid going home with the popgun.

That dubious honour went to Tasman while the home club showed how to play in the wind by snatching victory from Nelson on countback after both finished with 137 points. G Allan's fabulous 40 stableford points for Takaka - the best individual score of the day - proved the clincher. Only two others - Ken Howden of Nelson (38) and S Cosmotos of Totaradale (36) played to their handicaps.

Our scoring was led by Bryan Ramsey (33) and Ian Hanford (30), while the other counting scores were provided by Phil Sellers (29) and Richard Pearson (28). Barry Rhodes (28) and Mick Leggett (26) found the going tougher as did many in the field.

Waahi Taakaro's total of 120 was good enough for fifth.

Totaradale finished third on 129 and Motueka fourth (124).

Greenacres (119) came sixth, while Tasman (114) trailed the field.

The next round on December 1 is at Totaradale because Waahi Taakaro is still not ready for inter-club action after the flood.
