Hiccup for Old Hickory team

Our Old Hickory had a collective day to forget at Nelson on Thursday (April 7) but at least avoided taking home the popgun.

Most of our players struggled on the speedy greens which were often surrounded by lengthy rough.

Lloyd Patchett top scored for us with 30 stableford points. Our other counting scores were Warren Carey (29), Phil Sellers (28) and Graham Strickett (26), while Ian Hanford (25) and Barry Rhodes (22) found the going tougher than most.

Our team score of 113 left us in sixth, just three points above wooden-spooners Takaka.

The home team made no race of it, using their local knowledge to claim the trophy. Nelson’s total of 142 – with all their team scoring 31 points or better – was streets ahead of Totaradale (131) in second. Next were Tasman (124), Greenacres (122), Motueka (120), Waahi Taakaro (113) and Takaka (110).

Top score of the day went to Terry Richards (Nelson) with 37 points. The only other player to play to their handicap was his team mate Tony Rowe with 36 points.

The next round is at Totaradale on May 5.
