Lean pickings at Picton

Our 11-strong contingent contesting the annual Dewars Cup tournament at Picton over the weekend of March 10 and 11 couldn't claim any of the major prizes, despite making up almost a quarter of the field.

Played in perfect conditions on a well prepared course with excellent greens, most of our boys found the going tough against the club locals well used to negotiating the narrow tree-lined fairways and tight pin placements.

Dave Huntley was our best performer, shooting under his handicap on both days and finishing with a decent prize. Lewis Wilson, Terry Hemi and Tom Weiss were others to win minor prizes. Several of the boys had more success in the Calcutta, which reached an impressive total.

Despite our relative lack of success, it was an enjoyable weekend and many thanks to our friendly hosts. Given our strong support of the event and the earlier one at Rarangi, we hope to see a much large reciprocol turnout to our Maitai Masters next year.
