Mixed vets results for 22/10/26
- 22 October 2026
- Peter Watson
Mark Sherlaw played a blinder to win the mixed vets at Waahi Taakaro on a glorious Thursday for golf.
The Waahi Taakaro 22-handicapper blitzed the disappointingly small field of 18-holers, amassing an astonishing 46 stableford points. He went round in 89 for a net 62 off the white tees which featured birdie fours on No 4 and 7 and seven pars.
He won comfortably from Peter Watson who hit a 77 - the lowest gross of the day - for a net 68 and 40 points which would normally have been a winning score. His round consisted a front nine of 37 including a birdie three at No 7 and a birdie two at No 14.
As expected Waahi Taakaro players dominated, filling the top six places.
Mike De Veer also played well, totalling 38 points in a net 70 for third place. He was followed by Barry Mitchell and Ali Mawby who both came in with 37 points, while Jack Denton (36) played to his handicap.
Ian Perry of Nelson was the top visitor with 35 points and also won closest to the pin on both No 2 and 11. Former Waahi Taakaro player Elton Netto flew the flag for Totaradale with 34.
Dave Huntley brightened his day with a two at No 2.
On an ideal day for scoring, Paul McCrae headed the 9-holers, finishing with a fine 23 points playing the front nine. Tom Kennedy (21) and Ian Hanford (20) were also in good form in filling the minor placings. Rae Hanford (Totaradale) and Rebecca Gibson were next with 19 each, while Richard Pearson and Andrew Dean posted 18 apiece.
Our thanks go to greenkeeper James Dale for a course in prime condition and to Richard P and Heather Carey for their work running the tournament.
