Netto and Griggs grind out Brebde win

It took until the final hole for Elton Netto and Winton Griggs to claim the Brebde Senior/Junior title after an epic and absorbing battle with Andy Isle and Andrew Craig.

Played in cold and heavy conditions on Saturday (June 1), there was never more than a hole between the two teams, with the higher handicappers Winton and Andrew both playing particularly well.

Elton and Winton led by one after 9 holes but Andy and Andrew fought back to all square until Winton holed a knee knocker on the 14th to reclaim the lead. After two halved holes, Andy and Andrew won the 17th to tie it up again.

Andy put his drive out of bounds attempting to go over the trees on the last which put all the pressure on Andrew who couldn't quite respond, while both Elton and Winton stayed out of trouble for Winton to seal the win on the 18th green.

Both Winton and Andrew shot nett 68s, while Andy signed for a 72 and Elton for a 75.

In the match of the day, a nett round off the white tees, Peter Watson edged out his playing partner Terry Hemi on countback after both recorded tidy 71s.

Warren Carey grabbed his second consecutive 3rd with a 72, while Mike Murphy took fourth on countback from Alan Church and Dave Blake after the trio finished with 73s.

Rounding out the top ten were Steve Turnell, Maurice Woodhouse, Aaron Kotua and Bryan Ramsey who all shot 75.

Jack Denton went home $24 richer after he drained a 50ft putt from off the green for the only two of the day.
