Old Hickory team claims third

Our Old Hickory team finished a respectable third in the latest round of the inter-club competition played at Tasman on June 7.

Despite calm and cool conditions, only seven golfers in the entire field played to or bettered their handicap, with many finding the small and sloping greens a mystery. The top individual score was 41 stableford points.

The home team won easily, proving once again that local knowledge is king. Tasman totalled 149 points, comfortably ahead of Totaradale on 136 and Waahi Taakaro on 129. Nelson got the popgun for finishing last with a paltry 112 points.

Our scoring was again led by Pat Melville with 34 stableford points, while Jack Denton (32 points), Paul Tunnicliff (32 points) and Peter Watson (31 points) also contributed to the team total. Elton Netto (29 points) and Maurice Woodhouse (28 points)  were the non-counting players.

Paul Tunnicliff was one of five players to score a two, while Pal Melville won yet another raffle.

The next round is at Totaradale on July 5
