Our Old Hickory team put on an improved performance at a wet Nelson on Thursday (Aug 7), getting rid of the popgun and finishing a close fourth.
Takaka claimed honours for the second round in a row, although the terrible weather has meant only four rounds have been played with another three cancelled.
After an overcast start, the rain and the cold returned late in the day which affected the overall scoring, with just one player, Nelson's P Matete - who was just making up the numbers - beating his handicap with 37 stableford points.
Lloyd Moyle was the best of the Waahi Taakaro team with a solid 34 points. Maurice Woodhouse gave him good support with 33, while Graham Eggers and Peter Watson chipped in with 30 each. Ian Hanford (29) and Barry Rhodes (26) were the non-counters.
Led by 35 apiece from W Dobbie and R Young, Takaka top the scoring with 133 points. . Totaradale came second on 129, with B Biggs (34) leading the way. Motueka was just one point back on 128 with M Hay (34) their best scorer.
Waahi Taakaro was next on 127 and was followed by Nelson (124) with P Dowers (34) shining. Tasman (121) took sixth largely due to J O'Neil's 35 points, leaving Greenacres (118) to take home the popgun despite 34 from B Murray.
There were just two twos and they went to J O'Neil and M Hay.
So after four rounds, Totaradale has a handy 20-point lead in the Club of the Year standings with a total of 778. Motueka sits in second on 758, just in front of Waahi Taakaro (754), Greenacres (749) and Nelson (746).There is a bit of a gap back to Takaka (734) and Tasman (728.
The next round is at Totaradale on September 4 when everyone will be hoping for a fine day.
