Our Old Hickory team turned in another middling performance to finish fifth at Nelson on Thursday (May 2).

After the highs of last season, we remain well off the pace to retain the points trophy.

As usual, captain Ian Hanford led from the front with 35 stableford points, with Graham Strickett (34), Barry Mitchell (33) and Phil Sellers (32) providing the extras on what was another good autumn day for golf.

Grant Fergusson (26) and Richard Pearson (24) found the going tough on the quick greens.

Greenacres ground out a good win on the back of R Murray's 40 points which was the best individual score and he received consistent support from his team members .Their total of 145 was two better than Takaka (143), with home team Nelson (139) only managing third.

They were followed by Tasman (136), Waahi Taakaro (134) and Totaradale and Motueka on 130. Motueka went home with the popgun after a countback of the non-counting scorers.

Eight players matched or bettered their handicaps.

Twos were scored by R Murray, W Dobbie and S Hassan.
