Old Hickory team goes from zeros to heroes

One day you are the rooster, the next you are the feather duster.

But it was our Old Hickory team that was crowing after the latest round at Nelson on Thursday (June 6).

A month after slunking away with the dreaded popgun at Motueka for coming last, the lads bounced back in emphatic style to claim the trophy.

Led by an excellent effort from Maurice Woodhouse who shot the best stableford score of the day, Waahi Taakaro stormed to a six-shot victory over Tasman in cold but calm conditions.

Maurice garnered an impressive 43 points after shooting 79 off the stick. He received good support from Peter Watson with 41 points (75) and Richard Pearson with 39 points (80). Paul Tunnicliffe completed the scoring with a tidy 34 points. Tom Kennedy (27 points) and John Shaw (25 points) found the going a bit tougher.

Our players also dominated the twos, scoring four of the five potted, with Peter grabbing two and Maurice and Richard one each.

And in another demonstration of how the worm can turn, Motueka went from winning last month to popgun pain.

Teams scores were: Waahi Taakaro 157, Tasman 151, Greenacres 141, Totaradale 136, Takaka 132, Nelson 131, Motueka 128.

The next round is at Totaradale on July 4.
