Old Hickory team humbled

Our Old Hickory team has gone from heroes to zeros.

After winning three rounds in a row, they came a cropper at Takaka on Thursday (March 7).

So, instead of bringing home the trophy again, we returned with the popgun for finishing last, while home team Takaka romped to victory.

Despite good conditions, just three golfers in the field played to or above their handicap and none of them were Waahi Taakaro players as the greens flummoxed many.

Our best were Mick Leggett and Graham Galt with 30 stableford points. Other counting scores came from Phil Sellers (29) and Grant Fergusson (24). Bryan Ramsey (22) had a shocker and Barry Rhodes retired mid round because of ill health.

Takaka – boosted by John Solly’s 41 points which was the best of the day – won easily with a total of 143. Nelson (129) secured second and Totaradale (126) was third.

They were followed by Greenacres (123), Motueka (120) and Tasman (119), with Waahi Taakaro bringing up the rear with a woeful 113 points.

Takaka’s Graham Bradley and Brian Biggs of Totaradale shared the twos spoils with one each.

The next round is at Motueka on April 4.
