Old Hickory team in the mix

Our Old Hickory team turned in another solid performance in finishing a close third at Nelson on Thursday (July 6).

Led by 34 stableford points from Richard Pearson, we finished with a total of 126, just one shy of runners-up Motueka.

The home team, Nelson, again showed how important local knowledge is by powering to a comfortable victory.

Despite ideal conditions, scoring wasn’t brilliant with the quick greens tripping up many players.

Richard got steady support from Phil Sellers (32) and Mick Leggett and Graham Galt who came in with 30 points apiece. Barry Rhodes (30) and Warren Carey (25) were the non-counting scores.

Graham was one of only three players to record a two.

The individual top scorer was Simon Hassan of Nelson with 40 points, with his team-mate David Duggan and Tasman’s George Jameson the only others to play to their handicaps with 36 points each.

Nelson topped the standings on 137 points, ten ahead of Motueka (127). They were followed by Waahi Taakaro (126), Takaka (125), Tasman (124) and Greenacres (117) with Totaradale taking home the popgun after totalling a paltry 103 points.

The next round is at Totaradale on August 3.
