Our Old Hickory team started the 2025 season solidly, with a close third place at Nelson on Thursday.

In ideal golfing conditions, our team finished with 142 points, just one off second. Dave Huntley led our scoring with a handy 37 stablefords. He received good support from Peter Watson (36) and Barry Rhodes (35), with captain Ian Hanford chipping in with 34 points. Our non-scorers were Richard Pearson (31) and Phil Sellers (28), who at least had the consolation of winning a raffle prize.

Greenacres won comfortably with a total of 150 points. Their four top scorers all contributed 36 points or more with Lyn McKeown's excellent 40 points the best.

Motueka - boosted by Bernard Walsh's fine 41 points - finished second on 143.

Fourth was home team Nelson on 135. They were followed by Totaradale (133) and Tasman (132), with Takaka taking the popgun home after mustering just 123 points.

Paul Matete was the individual star with a stellar 44 points. Unfortunately, he was one of two Nelson players making up the field so his score didn't help his team.

Three golfers - Paul Matete, Dave Huntley and Richard Bullock (Motueka) - shared the twos balls.

The next round is at Totaradale on March 6.
