Old Hickory team second again

Our Old Hickory team notched up another second in the latest round of the inter-club competition on Thursday.

Played on a Tasman course still drying out from the recent rain, our adapted better than most to the tricky underfoot conditions.

Our captain Ian Hanford led the way with 35 stablefords. He received solid support from Mick Leggett (34), Richard Pearson (33) and Phil Sellers (32). Warren Carey did well to record 26 points on very little sleep while Barry Rhodes (25) was the other non-counting score.

The home team used their local knowledge well to cruise to a comfortable win, totalling 143 points largely thanks to Eric Satherley whose 38 points was the top individual score of the day and Mike McGee and Tony Fleming who were next best with 36 each.

Waahi Taakaro’s total of 134 was our second runner-up finish in a row. Way back in third was Totaradale (120), while Nelson (118), Motueka (116) and Greenacres (111) filled the minor places. Takaka, with a paltry 106 points, took home the popgun.

Ian and Richard had further reason to smile as they shared the twos booty with Robin Knight of Nelson.

The next round is at Nelson on September 1.
