Our Old Hickory team began the new year with a solid second at Tasman on Thursday (Feb 7).

In difficult dry conditions, the home team used their local knowledge to good effect to secure a comfortable win. They were the only team to average above their handicaps.

Tasman's 150 stableford points, led by top scorer of the day Neil Irwin with 40 pts, finished nine better than Waahi Taakaro on 141pts..

Denis Blomquist anchored our effort with 38 points and was well backed up by Maurice Woodhouse (36pts) and Tom Kennedy (35pts). Elton Netto completed the scoring with 32pts. Paul Tunnicliff (31pts) and Peter Watson (28pts) both had days to forget. Denis was just one four players to score a two.

Motueka grabbed third with 131pts, edging out Totaradale on 130pts, while Nelson and Greenacres shared sixth with 127pts.

Takaka took the popgun totalling just 126pts.

The next round is at Waahi Taakaro on March 7.
