One cup for our Country Clubs teams

Our two Waahi Taakaro teams had one good day each at the annual Super Six Country Clubs tournament played at Golden Downs over the weekend (Nov 8/9).

Team two consisting of Pete Green, Craig Barron, Keri Kotua and Matt Tomczyk narrowly missed out qualifying for the top eight after a mixed Saturday, but then swept all their Sunday matches to win the plate final, with Matt echoing his elated teammates by saying he was over the moon to represent the club and bring home some silverware.

By contrast, team one consisting of Andy Isle, Lewis Wilson, James Campion and Andrew Craig won five of their six matches on Saturday to finish as top qualifier but then won only one of their six Sunday  matches to finish a disappointing eighth.

Takaka 2 was the overall winner followed by Murchison 2 and Golden Downs 2. After being drawn in groups of four on Saturday, each team played three  rounds of nine-hole matches of four ball best ball on handicap before being split into a top eight and bottom eight on Sunday.
