Popgun pain for Old Hickory team

  • 2 May 2019
  • Peter Watson

Our Old Hickory team hacked their way to the ignomity of the popgun on Thursday (May 2) at Motueka.

There was no excuse for the weak performance - which will have the selectors sharpening their scalpels - as conditions were ideal for scoring, with the course in good condition and the weather benign.

Only Alan Muir stood tall with 38 stableford points, one off the best of the day.

The next best of a sorry lot was Peter Watson (29). He was followed by Richard Pearson (28), Rob Shand (25), Elton Netto (24) and Phil Sellers (23).

Our total of 120 was only one worse than Tasman (121), while Nelson and Totaradale also found the going tough with 123 stableford points each.

Greenacres managed third with 132 points.

The home side (145) held off a strong challenge from Takaka (144) by just one point to win the honours for the month.

Peter Nolan, Robin Knight and Graeme Wilson scored the only twos of the day.

The next round is at Nelson on June 6.
