Sellers stars in Old Hickory win

Phil Sellers shot his best ever stableford score to lead our Old Hickory to a narrow victory on Thursday (Nov 7).

The 22-handicapper shot 86 off the stick, including a two, to rack up an imposing 44 stableford points – easily the best in the field - in ideal conditions off the white tees on his home course. His hot form followed a good outing at the club Golden Oldies the day before.

He was well supported by Peter Watson – a gross 78 for 39 points – Elton Netto (38 points) and Paul Tunnicliff (37 points). The non-scorers were Richard Pearson and Bryan Ramsey who ended with 35 points each.

Waahi Taakaro’s total of 158 was only just good enough to grab the trophy in a day of generally good scoring on a well prepared course (thanks Arnold). Greenacres was a close second on 156 points followed by Motueka (155), Nelson and Tasman (145 each) and Takaka (142). Totaradale did the walk of shame in collecting just 133 points and the dreaded popgun.

Phil Sellers was one of three to record twos, the others being Paul Tunnicliff and Robbie Dyce (Takaka).

Our thanks go to Tom Kennedy for organising the day and to his team of helpers Noel Shaw, Warren Green, Barry Flowers and Warwick King.

The final round of the year is at Motueka on December 5.
