Sloan team has a lot of catching up to do

Our Sloan team sits last after three rounds in this year's inter-club competition.

As hosts, we had the bye on a sunny Sunday at Waahi Taakaro (April 14) which allowed other teams to leapfrog us up the table.

Perennial favourite Motueka stormed to the front with an emphatic 7 1/2 to 1 1/2 win over previously unbeaten Greenacres, while Golden Downs - which has already had its bye - easily accounted for Takaka 7 to 2 to jumped to third on the table.

Totaradale made headway with a 6 1/2 to 2 1/2 win over Murchison as did Tasman with a 6 1/2 to 2 1/2 victory over Nelson.

It means we sit last with just 5 points, however it is not as bleak as it seems as we have already played two of the strongest teams, Motueka (where we drew) and Golden Downs (where we got thumped).

The points table is as follows: Motueka 18, Greenacres 16, Golden Downs 15, Takaka 12, Nelson 11 1/2, Totaradale 10, Tasman 10, Murchison 9, Waahi Taakaro 5.

The next round is on May 19 at Takaka where we play Greenacres.
