Our Sloan team has hauled itself off the bottom of the points table with a gutsy 7-2 win over Takaka at Totaradale on Sunday (May 26).

The final score was a lot closer than it looked with three matches decided on the final hole.

Played in lovely autumn weather, Keri Kotua got smoked by Takaka No 1 Rob Ancell 6/4 who shot 76 off the stick.

No 2 Andy Isle had to go to the last hole to down Jeff Riordan 1 up, while Steve Russell showed plenty of ticker at No 3 to come from two down with five to play to pip Paul Hay 1 up on their final hole. And No 4 Elton Netto drained a 20 footer at the death to complete another come-from-behind win 1 up.

No 5 Lewis Wilson was defeated by Jarah Benseman 2 up, but No 6 Dave Blake dealt to Mike Tivio 5/4 to help get the ball rolling in our favour.

Our first win of the season lifts us into sixth equal on the points table and we have the advantage of having had our bye.

In other results, Motueka easily overcame Nelson 7/2, Golden Downs thumped Greenacres 8 1/2 to 1/2 and Tasman were too good for Murchison 7/2.

The points table after five rounds is : Motueka 32, Golden Downs 27.5, Tasman 24.5, Greenacres 23.5, Nelson 17.5, Takaka and Waahi Taakaro 14, Murchison 13, Totaradale 11.5.

The next round is at Tasman on June 9.
