Sloan team takes a tumble

Our Sloan team suffered a 4 1/2 to 1 1/2 loss to Golden Downs in round five of the inter-club competition played at Totaradale on Sunday (May 27) which effectively spells the end of our hopes for higher honours this year.

In a topsy turvy match, Golden Downs eventually came out on top.

In the juniors Jonathan Tuheke went down 2/1 but Pat Melville got us on the board with a miraculous half, coming back from four down with four to play to share the points.

The intermediate games were shared with Elton Netto losing 2/1, but the in-form Dean Goodman surging to a comfortable 4/2 win in his first Sloan appearance of the season.

However, any chance of our team grabbing a late victory disappeared with both our seniors defeated. Andy Isle battled hard before going down 2/1 while Rob Willems succumbed 4/3.

The loss - our third of the season - means we are out of the running for a finals berth.
