Sloan woes worsen

Our Sloan team remains rooted to the bottom of the points table after a hard-to-swallow loss to Greenacres at Takaka on Sunday (May 19).

Three last hole defeats sent us tumbling to a 7-2 capitulation in ideal conditions on the Pohara links course.

No 1 Keri Kotua was three up with five to play but went down after his opponent sunk two long putts on the final two holes, while No 2 Peter Watson stormed back after being 5 down to blow a chance for a half when he three-putted the final hole.

No 3 Elton Netto played solidly but lost 4/3 after his rival shot a nett 66 and No 4 Jonathan Tuheke succumbed 1 down at the death.

Our juniors restored some respectability, with No 5 Lewis Wilson battling to a 1 up win, while No 6 Warwick King eased to a 2/1 victory.

In other results, Motueka beat Murchison 7-2, Golden Downs and Nelson played out a 4-all draw and Tasman outclassed Totaradale 7 1/2 to 1 1/2.

The points table after 4 rounds is: Motueka 25, Greenacres 23, Golden Downs 19, Tasman 17 1/2, Nelson 15 1/2, Takaka 12, Totaradale 11 1/2, Murchison 11, Waahi Taakaro 7.

The next round is at Totaradale on May 26 where we play Takaka.
