Waahi Taakaro women star in Best of Best tournament

Our wonderful Waahi Taakaro women starred at the annual Best of the Best Tasman 9-hole tournament held on Tuesday (Oct 20), winning five of the seven prizes decided on the day.

Playing on their home course, Micayla Lowden, Marg Parfitt, Donna Dawson and Judith Jordan all played exceptionally well in ideal spring weather on a Waahi Taakaro course in great condition.

Micayla posted the best gross score, a solid 47, to win division one, which also won her a trophy for the best overall gross among the 38 golfers from seven clubs who teed it up.

Judith dominated division two, winning both the gross and the net after recording an excellent gross 52 playing off a handicap of 22.

The women then combined to win the team prize, totalling an impressive 63 stableford points for the best three scores to finish ahead of Nelson (59) and Motueka (58). Judith topped the individual standings with 24 points, with Donna (21), Marg (18) and Micayla (18) all contributing strongly.

Other winners were Gabrielle Milnes of Motueka who won the best net in division one on countback from Gwennyth Fenemor after both recorded 32.

Diana Bassett of Greenacres won the best improved prize with 18 stableford points.

Three other prize winners were announced based on results accumulated over the season, with Helen Dryden (Motueka) taking out the 9-hole LGU, Margaret Fraser (Greenacres) claiming the 9-hole Sue Bunt competition and Jennifer Singleton (Nelson) picking up the 9-hole Postal Stableford award.
